Getting Real With Wanda Morrissey

Some of my favourite summer memories are of family camping trips. Dad would pack the tent, sleeping bags, camp stove, a cooler full of food and off we’d go for a week or just a weekend. I ended up marrying a man who doesn’t like to camp. His idea of roughing it is staying at a motel. One of the staples of camping is making s’mores around the campfire. Since lighting a campfire in a motel lobby is frowned upon, it’s been awhile since I’ve had a s’more.

Then, while roaming around the internet one night, I found instructions on how to make s’mores on the BBQ. This I had to try. I went to the store bought the things that I needed and went home to try it out. Following the instructions I found, I assembled my s’mores, wrapped them in a foil packet and put them on the BBQ for about five minutes. The instructions didn’t say if you should leave the lid up or down so I put it down. The graham crackers got a little scorched so I think the next time I’ll try it with the lid up. But, a little scorched or not, they turned out pretty darn good.

Although it’s not quite the same as s’mores over a campfire, s’mores on the BBQ are a reasonable substitute. I’ll be making them again…and soon!
