Getting Real With Shadra Bruce

I love traveling, seeing new places, having new adventures…but I love being able to share it with my extended family, and my sister and her family as well as my dad and his wife will be meeting us in Newport in a couple days. We’re staying here on the beach for five nights, having earned a much-needed respite from the go-go-go of road tripping.

The water is much colder than the beaches in San Diego that I enjoyed in my childhood, but that has not prevented us from braving the water. Today, the kids built sandcastles for the first time in their lives with real beach sand. Anika even built a moat for hers and filled it with ocean water, marveling that the water didn’t just sink right in.

The sounds of the ocean, the smell of the salty air, and the virtually empty beaches just out the door from our room are a nice change from driving.
