Have you heard about SOPA and PIPA?
SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) would allow the government power to block websites that specific corporations don’t like. This will also allow corporations and our government to censor entire websites and can even cut websites off from advertising payments and donations! Just think about that! This means Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, but more importantly, it means all the smaller businesses out there who can’t afford a team of lawyers to fight back.
They say that it’s about protecting against copyright infringement, but we have laws to protect us for that. This is about censorship and corporate pressure.
“Go dark” to show their protest against SOPA and PIPA (PROTECT IP Act).
This will probably not be the only protest action. I hope not. Because these two US bills are threatening our freedom of expression and if it is going to happen, the future will look very dark.
The test vote will be on January 24th.
