Getting Real With Shadra Bruce
Some of my favorite memories are triggered around the holidays when my husband starts his annual baking. (Yes, he does the baking, and it’s a good thing, too, since it would otherwise never get done since I don’t like cooking!)
From the sweet smells of Cinnamon and nutmeg to the pungent garlic smell that permeates our house during Chex Snack Mix day to the mouthwatering Italian smells of sauce cooking for our annual lasagne feed every Christmas, my fondest holiday memories are inexorably connected to the smells of the season.
The holidays in our house are all about family, and the scents of each holiday season not only bring up good memories of holidays with my kids but even better memories of my own childhood holidays. We still maintain some of the many traditions started by my grandparents and great-grandparents, and having the ability to fill my house with the smells that trigger those happy thoughts is wonderful, indeed.
